Overview

Sastram Labs builds the Sampark SDK, the Bodha Drive app, and the Hastle Free backend. This policy explains what data we collect across those products, why we collect it, who sees it, and how you can control it. It applies to fleet operators and insurers who deploy our software, to drivers whose trips are scored, and to visitors of this site.

Sampark is embedded inside our customers’ apps or shipped through Bodha Drive. In both cases, the fleet operator or insurer who deployed the SDK is typically the data controller for driver data; Sastram Labs acts as the processor, under the terms of our commercial agreement with that customer. Where you use Bodha Drive directly as a consumer, Sastram Labs is the controller for your account data.

What we collect

To score a trip, Sampark reads phone sensors and location during active driving. Specifically:

  • Motion data — accelerometer and gyroscope readings, sampled during trips, used to detect hard braking and rapid acceleration.
  • Location data — GPS coordinates during a trip, used to determine route, speed, and trip start/end.
  • Phone-use signals — on-device detection of screen state and handling during driving, used to flag distracted-driving events. This runs on-device; we do not read message content, call content, or app content.
  • Trip metadata — timestamps, distance, and derived scores (phone use, braking, acceleration).
  • Account data (Bodha Drive only) — email address and device identifiers needed to create and secure your account.
  • Diagnostic data — crash logs and performance telemetry, used to keep detection reliable across the wide range of Android hardware our customers’ fleets run.

Detection and scoring run on-device by default. Data leaves the device only after a trip completes, and only to the extent our customer’s program requires — for scoring storage, coaching, and reporting back to the fleet or insurer.

How we use it

  • To detect trips and score phone use, hard braking, and rapid acceleration.
  • To generate driver-facing feedback and coaching nudges through Bodha Drive.
  • To surface fleet- or policy-level reporting to the operator or insurer who deployed the program.
  • To calibrate detection thresholds against the specific devices and driving conditions of a given fleet.
  • To maintain and improve detection reliability, including on devices with aggressive background-process management.

We do not sell driver data, and we do not use it to serve advertising.

Who we share it with

Trip and score data is shared with the fleet operator or insurer who deployed Sampark for their program — that is the purpose of the program you or your fleet agreed to. Beyond that:

  • We use infrastructure providers to store and process data on our behalf, bound by data-processing agreements consistent with this policy.
  • We do not share driver data with unrelated third parties, and we do not sell it.
  • We may disclose data where required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Sastram Labs, our customers, or the public.

Data residency

Where a program requires it, deployments can be self-hosted or regionally pinned. See our Data Residency page for how storage location, tenant isolation, and sub-processors work.

Retention

Trip and score data is retained for as long as the customer program that generated it remains active, plus a limited period afterward for dispute resolution and reporting, per the terms of the relevant commercial agreement. Diagnostic and crash data is retained for a shorter, fixed window sufficient to debug and resolve issues. You can request earlier deletion of your own data as described below.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to production data is limited to personnel who need it to operate or support the service, and is logged. Multi-tenant deployments of Hastle Free run each tenant in its own isolated database schema, so one customer’s data is never queryable from another’s context.

Your rights

Depending on where you’re located, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing — including under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act and equivalent regimes in the markets we serve. If you’re a driver whose trips are scored through a customer’s program, the fastest path is usually through that fleet or insurer, since they hold the underlying consent relationship. You can also reach us directly at hello@sastram.in and we’ll route the request appropriately.

International transfers

We run programs across India, Colombia, Israel, South Africa, Southeast Asia, and the US. Where data crosses borders, we rely on contractual safeguards with our infrastructure providers and customers to keep protection consistent with this policy, regardless of where the data is processed.

Children’s privacy

Our products are built for commercial fleet, insurance, and consumer driving programs and are not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the age of consent for data processing in their jurisdiction.

Changes to this policy

We’ll update this page when our practices change, and update the date at the top when we do. Material changes affecting active customer programs will be communicated directly to that customer.
